Why does this matter?

Working at a daycare in a town with a high homeless population, I witness firsthand the impact that poverty has on families every day. It has provided firsthand knowledge and made me even more committed to advancing solutions that address the root causes of poverty in our community. It has been an example of how important communities are when it comes to helping people and how the governments aid is a big role in providing at least good childcare for employed parents.

Workability

These community solutions to poverty exist within the reality of what our community already has the capacity to do.

Cash transfer programs can be done well if you shift money from less efficient welfare elsewhere so local governments can just hand out money to needy families. This assistance can enable people to pay for necessities such as food and utilities, easing financial burdens in the short term.

An adult education program could be increased by partnering with community colleges and other existing providers. We can break the cycle of poverty by offering more GED prep and vocational training, preparing people for careers that will lead to a stable job.

Enhanced access to healthcare can be made possible by networking with local clinics and physicians to cater for the health needs of the poor. Preventative care and outreach programs can tackle the health disparities that disproportionately impact working-poor communities, which in turn will improve overall economic conditions.

Training programs for the job can be enhanced and benefits the local industry by adapting it according to the completed workmanship. Taking skill-building and support services into account will increase, improve participants' probability of obtaining stable employment and becoming economically self-sufficient.

Lastly, development of affordable housing can be given priority, by means of funding at the state and federal levels, as well as partnerships with non-profit organizations. If we can concentrate on building affordable homes, we can tackle the most pressing issue maintaining dignity in a stable living area, which is fundamental to a healthier and more productive community.
